Maryland Science Center

Who is Red Eyed Ryder?

How y'all are this fine day...

Lemme tell ya about the Maryland Science Center, located in Baltimore, Maryland's Inner Harbor. L'il Red and I went up there as part of a Cub Scout outing, where they lock you in the Center, educate your young men in science related things, and bed them down. It's a wonderful place, but I will caution you, it's not geared for anyone over the age of 12 or so.

This little story is about the Science Center, not about the Cub Scout Program, so please bear with me as I try to separate the two. Parking is a pain in the butt, since you are in a big city. We were parked on far side of the place, but they did validate our parking. I'm not sure if they validate for all visitors, but all you can do is ask. It's location in the Inner Harbor also is next to the tall ship USS Constellation, the only Coast Guard ship to survive the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack, the Hard Rock Cafe and other entertainment.

The Maryland Science Center is very touchy-feely, and is extremely kid-friendly. There is an area in the main lobby where you can experience interactive exhibits demonstrating forces, motion, fluid dynamics and gravity. Adults can certainly do these activities, and it reminded Red of being a kid again. Besides, too many adults have lost their inner child, so go, enjoy, have fun. Especially if your kids are next to you learning. You'll be surprised how much grade-school science comes back to you, and you adults might actually learn something from your kids - imagine that.

The Center has focus areas on physics (Newton's Law), Nature, animals, and Mother Earth, Planets, Stars and the Galaxies, and the human body. They have a killer planetarium (isn't that where Luke Skywalker eats lunch??), and a number of classrooms devoted to teaching science in a very cool way. On the third floor, the human body section is targeted to young people because it has explanations of all the bodily functions your mother hates, like fartin' and belchin' and spittin' and going to the bathroom.

There is a cafe style restaurant adjacent to the Center, and access can be gained from the museum. It was not open for us, since we were there well after closing, but the menu was varied, and seemed very reasonably priced.

There are many group tours, and the staff of volunteers are extremely helpful and well versed in their chosen fields.

Great for the kid in all of us... a great GOSEEUM from the Road Warriors...

TNT,

Red
